In spring 2023 I designed and manufactured the carbon fiber composite hood of the Johns Hopkins Baja SAE 20XT vehicle.
The female mold was created by CNC routing laminated MDF sheets.
The hood was layed up in the mold and then vacuum bagged to improve resin dispersion. Resin infusion was also experimented with but not used for the final pieces.
After trimming, polishing, and applying decals, this is what the final hood looked like!
I worked for a few years as a composites maintenance technician at a sailing center. I conducted a wide variety of repairs on fiberglass sailboats, from large structural patches to repainting hulls to fixing metallic hardware.
